I love Mexican restaurants that have friendly staff, clean facilities, lots of tortilla chips and salsas. And the big 5 gallon bucket of pickled jalapenos and carrots just make my heart sing! But I really love Mexican restaurants that have vegan dishes on the menu. Picante’s Veggie Butternut Squash #burrito is flavorful with right amount of spice and plentiful! Totally ordering this dish again. Butternutsquash, rice, pinto beans, pico de gallo salsa, grilled bellpeppers and onions wrapped up in a tomato tortilla… Delish! I’ll see you at the table!

Lunch today was Lentil soup and Cobb Chop Salad. Perfect serving sizes. The seasonings in the Lentil soup were really earthy and Mediterranean. I love that they have local products in their food offerings. I’m all for supporting local.
Another bonus about Blue Skies Cafe is that they hire and train people who have disabilities. This program helps these employees gain useful job skills so that they’ll be able to work in other eating establishments – of which, Marin County has many! This is a great example of tax dollars put to good use (at least from what I can tell!).

The most amazing beet salad, ever. If you ever find yourself in Marin County (north of San Francisco), head over to Il David in San Rafael, CA. It is a lovely mid sized restaurant and a great spot for lunch and dinner. The waiters are attentive just enough… not over bearing, but attentive.
