Asapargus

17332737_1265365500208322_2353166337565523968_nIt’s that lovely time of year when asparagus is in season! Delicate but bursting with flavor, add asparagus to your menu. My local grocer (Winco) has it on sale for $0.98/pound!
Some asparagus dish ideas:
šŸ“Cream of asparagus soup
šŸ“Roasted asparagus with balsamic dressing for dipping
šŸ“Two-inch size pieces added to rice
šŸ“Steamed and added to veggie tortilla wrap

However you use it, indulge in this spring time delicious vegetable!

Healthy travel eating tip

einsteinA great meal when on the run at the airport, the Veg Up! Bagel Sandwich at Einstein’s is a yummy quick treat. Instead of getting the cream cheese veggie schmear, ask for the hummus instead. I love the abundance of veggies, including cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, spinach.

To be nice to the people you’re traveling next to, forgo the onions… šŸ˜‰

Restaurant Review: Blue Fish – Utah

bluefish

Halloween dinner out calls for sushi! Thanks to Urban Spoon, was reminded about this Japanese restaurant in The District. Right now they have a happy hour special of 2 rolls with an appetizer for only $25. Enjoyed the veggie tempura starter with mango tango and ecstasy rolls. The Ecstasy roll was a winner with hint of spice and lime slice for citrus punch. Great customer service with friendly staff. Quick food prep kept the dinner moving along nicely. Being two doors down from the movie theater, great spot for #date night. Seating comfortable for two-somes to large groups. Overall, a great spot with some unique sushi offerings at reasonable prices.

Restaurant Review: Taco Janes – California

taco-janes-san-anselmoTaco Janes in San Anselmo!

Iā€™ve heard great things about Taco Janes in San Anselmo for years, so I was pleased to join my mom her long time BFFs for dinner. While the menu sports plenty of meat lover Mexican dishes, I was delighted to find several veggie based dishes too. I enjoyed the veggie burrito (with optional wheat tortilla). Easy to request no cheese or sour cream for vegan dish. chips and salsa was rockinā€™ good! Other ladies really enjoyed the salmon on salad and fish tacos. Looked great! This is a great place for family dinner, date night, gathering of friends. If you have opportunity to meet the restaurant owner Matthew, take the chance to ask him about his photography on the walls ā€“ he has an eye for capturing Cuban culture in photography.

Restaurant Review: Shin Sei – Utah

shin-sei-ogdenLunch at Shin Sei in Ogden.

Looking for lunch spot in historic Ogden, check out this great Japanese joint. Wonderful vegan and meat lover options. Sushi was veggie. Canā€™t believe itā€™s not a volcano, spicy salmon. Check out their $2 Tuesday specials too. The mussel shooters were great!

Restaurant Review: Thailand Restaurant – Utah

thailand-restaurant-draperThailand Restaurant in Draper.

Veggie spicy pad ped, Tom ka, veggie egg rolls? Yes, please! Thai House in Draper was sold and renamed to Thailand Restaurant. Same great location, food is pretty good too. My only gripe was not enough wait staff for busy lunch, otherwise great location for business lunch.

Restaurant Review: Thai Basil – Utah

thai-basil-slcDinner out with new investor friends. Fresh, crisp veggies, flavorful sauces, decent portion sizes. Great variety of veggie, vegan and meat dishes. We enjoyed pineapple curry, pad siew, egg rolls, potstickers, basil tofu stir fry. Quick, nice service. Great spot for business meal, family outings and date nights.

Restaurant Review: Gingers – Utah

gingers-springvilleLooking for a healthy dinner out and kid friendly? Check out Gingerā€™s Cafe in Springville. The #vegan nachos are the best Iā€™ve ever had! The falafel wrap and veggie wrap are really good too. For kids, the chikā€™n nuggets that come with almond milk and lollipop are a hit!

Restaurant Review: Taqueria 27 2 – Utah

taqueria27Always great to connect with friends. When I can share a new restaurant with them is even better. Restaurant review this time: funny servers, lentil with veggies yummy but serving too small, same goes for side of rice. Abundant chips & salsaā€¦ with the special hot sauce is spicy-hot-delight! Dessert donuts were ok, but not worth the sugar rush. veggie taco not nearly as good as the pear beet taco last time. Dinner time is much louder than lunch, less conducive to conversation. All-in-all still a great spot for vegan yumminess! Iā€™ll be back againā€¦ probably just for lunch.
